Dreams

Strangled to orders, dreams
Looked like the lonely ant in the ocean.
Nothing to inspire, only hope and prayers.

Moving against the wave,
Obstacles stranded infront,
Even sun looked like land,
But realized me wrong.

Trust everyone not, befriend no one not,
Hope,hope and hope the efforts.
Welcome the critics, smile the jealous,
Salute the fortune, live your life.

Faith pleaded fate, lust of wounded,
Never the same petal, once obeyed.
Every moment heart whispers, quit,
Live others, but soul knows the destiny.

Found millions of hopeless fishes,
Regret that failed to rewrite the fate,
Drowned by the mythical orders.

Felt proud being different, relished every notch,
Revenge against the fate, to teach the retards,
Will be soon living the dreams, where standing
Ovation will be smiled out.

A Pravasi Tale

Never the maestro of his
Own destiny, destined by fate and love.

Hearts with care and concern,
Ridden with memories and nostalgia.
Dreams ,distress, hopes and
Diseases befriended them.
Souls with tired words.
Boring sights with signs
Of wear and tear.

His visit to family brings
Glimpses of glimmers,
Returns with bagful of flowers
And thorns in heart.

Feelings unmatched, faith unrivaled,
Soul in disguise, heart never let
Them befallen. Prayers mountain,
Hope unrealistic, fingers crossed,
Happiness shared, joy laughed out,
Distress surrenders, only the baby smile
And born prayers share their sleep.

My Angel

                                                                                   "My Angel"

Came to me as soothing breeze,
Took me to the 7th sky,
Wondered how angels fly,
Rejoiced every second of my feat!

Her eyes looked like a pearl in a shell
She sounds heavnly fizzy,
Smiles like morning flowers,
Misted with fairy teeth!

Heart stops when she talks,
World fades,only angel stays,
Her warmth forgets me heaven,
Tickled me with teeny weeny fingers
Still wonders how lucky i am...

The Great Indian FDI saga

IN THE MAKING
Indian economy is subjected to changes, not according to planning commission and Pranab Mukherji, but according to the tax payers, says one unknown NDA political leader passed 4th standard. Even though his claim doesn’t make any sense, he got what he wanted i.e., publicity.
It has said to be a dramatic stunt for overshadowing revolutionary lokpal bill but in fact it has been a long time since Rahul Gandhi found excited about FDI in retail, most probably after having done shopping with his girl friend{including ex}at walmart!! It would have been tough for him to find GUCCI for her in Amethi, that’s why he tickled Pranab Mukherji to launch FDI but it indeed tickled many in many ways. Sharad Pawar found himself having more than required number of tablets for controlling his blood pressure, Prakash Karat couldn’t resist editing his election campaign materials and L.K Advani found busy with his eco-friendly Rath Yatras!!!!!

RULING PARTY, FDI AND ME
The first point which Rahul Gandhi put forward before explaining the FDI concept was about the unbelievable growth of China after approving 100% percent FDI and the tremendous uplift of Thailand economy. He did mention about the developing scenario of Indonesia too. Excitement overwhelmed and all top B-School students kept busy doing case study on this. Every day it was FDI in media. As usual I and my mediocre thoughts lost in front of all these. It took a while for someone from  Govt. to explain the FDI in retail concept. I found myself seating in front of T.V sets searching for some boring FDI debate and ended up listening to Pranab Mukherji’s claims about FDI.
It was indeed lack of huge investments in the retail sector which would have seen a gainful employment opportunities in agro-processing, sorting, marketing, logistics management etc. paved way for slow growth of economy.
According to Govt., Policy mandates a minimum investment of $100 million with at least half the amount to be invested in back-end infrastructure, including cold chains, refrigeration, transportation, packing and processing. This is expected to considerably reduce post-harvest losses.
Foreign retail majors will ensure supply chain efficiencies, hence having a positive impact on food inflation.
A strong legal framework in the form of the Competition Commission is available to deal with any anti-competitive practices, including predatory pricing ensuring ‘all is well’.
The main advantage of FDI in retail is that the brokers/middleman concept will be erased. At the end of the day farmers and end users will be benefited. Experience of the last decade shows small retailers have flourished in harmony with large outlets. Hence at least 10 million jobs will be created in the next three years in the retail sector.

OPPOSITION, FDI AND ME
Even if something good happens from the ruling party side, it’s a habit of opposition party to oppose it at all the possible ways even by calling it as utter nuisance. It was Prakash Karat, the comrade, who opposed FDI straight away even before officially announced by Govt.  He said, move will lead to large-scale job losses. International experience shows supermarkets invariably displace small retailers. Small retail has virtually been wiped out in developed countries like the US and in Europe.
The party which always calls for the development of the country[only during elections],BJP, claimed that  fragmented markets give larger options to consumers. Consolidated markets make the consumer captive. Allowing foreign players with deep pockets leads to consolidation. International retail does not create additional markets, it merely displaces existing markets.
Experts says that Jobs in the manufacturing sector will be lost because structured international retail makes purchases internationally and not from domestic sources. This has been the experience of most countries which have allowed FDI in retail.
A large group of economist says that International retail players have no role in building roads or generating power. They are only required to create storage facilities and cold chains. This could be done by governments in India.

MY TAKE
HATS OFF to Rahul Gandhi to his one man show, salute to Pranab for his ever diplomatic approach and still amused by the ever silent PM. Literally I am a fan of this so called controversial FDI in retail. If this comes to reality, there will be a huge growth in the economy. When Indian Govt. welcomed the concept of open economy, there were thousands of economist who opposed it. I cannot even  imagine the condition of Indian economy if it was not accepted. Also when the computerization came into India, there were major concerns about job losses. But now it has been a prime cause for the standard of living.
In India, 60% of the people are farmers. In developed countries, it’s 20%. Seriously who wanna be a farmer these days??
If anything, the entry of retail big boys is likely to hot up competition, giving consumers a better deal, both in prices and choices. Mega retail chains need to keep price points low and attractive - that's the USP of their business. This is done by smart procurement and inventory management: Good practices from which Indian retail can also learn. Time for big bazaar, More and Star bazaar to think out of box.
The fears about the small shopkeepers replaced by big retailers are baseless. Who will buy 1rupee matchbox from walmart??? Who will go to supermarkets to buy vegetables when it is available at nearest shop?? How many of us purchase goods for our one full month at a time?? Who wanna be in long queue holding 1kg rice in walmart because of 2rupee discount?? There will be competition among big retailers, but not with local shopkeepers.
Big retail chains are actually going to hire a lot of people. So, in the short run, there will be a spurt in jobs. Eventually, there's likely to be a redistribution of jobs with some drying up (like that of middlemen) and some new ones sprouting up.
In short, if govt. thinks it’s gonna be a developing factor, they have to welcome it!! Let the dogs bark, they will stop when they get tired!!!!

Media and 26th Nov 2008 part 1

Media, the only powerful weapon ever used in the country! Nuclear energy may come into your mind, but it was the media who had more destructive power. You may not have forgotten what happened in 26th of November 2008. I have seen more number of reporters than commandos in t.v!! Fireworks in every channel I have seen, even the entertainment channels were busy to get the celebrities speak about the “event” and it had certainly increased their TRP rating!! But nothing could stop women watching their favourite serials! Round table conferences and one-table-many-chairs conference could not help in any means! Politicians rushed{many rushed to hold their seats tightly, many to their spiritual gurus, many to check whether their business premise and palace is safe and hardly anyone to the attacked place and homes of deceased},media exaggerated, tourists “amused” as usual and terrorist celebrated!!

Defense minister woke up, Prime minister opened his mouth, home minster skipped his cup of cerelac and media showed live attack day and night!!
It took another 10 days for politicians to realize that elections are near; hence chanakyas of every party pushed their candidates to homes of deceased to ensure their vote banks!! It was a sensational and revolutionary thought by parents of deceased Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan to restrict the admission of politicians to their home!!
Ajmal kasab and Pakistan trended worldwide, war of words started between Pakistan and India, foreign ministers kept busy with new press release/meet every hour, tourists evaporated from India, opposition party started seeking removal of PM.

My review on kingfisher crisis

MY SCENARIO
When I got a mail from king club saying that they are going to reconfigure the kingfisher red aircraft and they are sorry for the inconvenience caused, I felt so proud of myself for being a king club member and humbled by their loyalty to travelers !! But when I came to know that there are thousands of king club members and everyone was addressed in the same manner, I didn’t feel that good!!

It took another one month for me to realize that many flights were cancelled and passengers were stranded at the airport. The best customer support officers at kingfisher desk looked so dumb at that time. Many travel agents were busy handling the calls and queries, mainly asking them to cancel the flight ticket and book in other airways.

Media reporters were in an hurry to catch up the king of good times, but hardly anyone got him. But soon he updated in twitter that he is enjoying with his F1 team.TV9 was obsessed by the downfall of the kingfisher. Journalists had sleepless nights thinking about creating controversial report on it. At last when the media ran out of controversial topics, they started blaming Deepika Padukone for bringing the much mattered bad luck for the kings. Only Siddarth would have known how he consoled her.
Vijay Mallya’s twitter account even got hanged because of the sudden increase in the followers. Even the CEO and CFO could not satisfy the hungry media. They answered in a very diplomatic manner. Even I was struck in the middle thinking about whom to be blamed.

ENTRY OF THE KING OF GOOD TIMES
The much awaited press conference has been finally called at Hyatt Regency at Mumbai by Mallya. The lady journalist at the front row could not resist her anger on Mallya for cancelling one of the flights she was supposed to travel for attending an important meeting. She started with a fire ball asking to Mallya that how he feels when he cheated his loyal customers!
Mallya was as ever nice to ladies when he started answering to her question with an humble apology to all his customers, It was more than enough for her to feel victorious.
Mallya started explaining the situation to the media by blaming the inflation rate, taxation policy and increasing jet petrol price. He also blamed media for cooking up the issue in the wrong perspective. Mallya said fly kingfisher incurred a loss of $120 million and that paved way for closing down the routes which were not profitable. Also he asked public whether is it the duty of kingfisher to fly in the loss route. He promised that he will bounce back and said that dues to the oil companies have been paid up to 95% and news relating to the shutting down of kingfisher is false.
It was more than enough for the phantom Bal Thackeray to blame the flamboyance of Mallya for the downfall of the kingfisher. Even the automobile tycoon Mr.Rahul Bajaj said that who is going to die should be allowed to die. He literally copied the quote of Herbert Spencer.
He didn’t even have known how much he would have spent for the cheerleaders, says one common man on T.V. In an debate on CNN IBN, Captain Gopinath needlessly proved again that he is a fool as he could not give a clear answer for the crisis.

THE OUTSIDE STORY
The billionaire, the flamboyant, the king of good times, the politician, the powerful etc was the tag that Vijay Mallya had so far and the one more tag will soon will be associated with him, the most cunning!!!
It was a straight forward decision from Mallya to cancel the flights to reduce the loss incurred and reconfigure the kingfisher red with the full service. But he could have done this cancellation in much more better way.
Aviation sector in India for me is like the Chaaiwala near to my home who used to complain that the centerfresh chewing gum used to get over soon from his shop and he will charge more for it so that it won’t finish. I often used to wonder on the fact that the number of air passengers is increasing every year but the jet fuel price still loved to climb up the graphs. Hence I reached up to a funny conclusion that the increase in passengers is directly proportional to the increase fuel price.
Aviation sector has been infected by the fuel price. Sales tax often stood at 26%.Price rise often stared at 9%. The class that kingfisher maintained stood firm irrespective of all these for long time. But it was just a matter of time when India’s second largest carrier lost its stand. Even kingfisher called out for the bailout but later withdrawn the request
Its not about the intervention of Govt. that kingfisher required, its about proper management of funds, says BJP by opposing the Govt. support to kingfisher. Marxist party said that they won’t allow the Govt. to help kingfisher with the money of public.

THE INSIDE STORY
Vijay Mallya owns a luxurious yatch costing $130 million, a huge bungalow at Goa, plenty of vintage cars, 200 horses etc. His liquor business had a growth of 46% in 2011. IPL team never been a concern of loss. His real estate business also had a steady growth.
But nothing could stop from incurring loss to fly kingfisher. The next best thing was to cancel the flights. Now as a part of recovering from the loss, the fly kingfisher had converted $28 million debt to equity causing loss for the banks. But Govt. asked the banks to support the kingfisher. SBI asked to raise funds through fresh issues.
As the central Govt. cannot help a private sector directly, Aviation Minister asked the finance ministry to sort out the issue. Mallya welcomed the support of central Govt.
There has been a news that Fly kingfisher got two deal proposal worth $380 million, one from an Indian investor and another from a consortium of 14 banks led by SBI. But Mallya said it’s factually wrong.
Mallya lashed at state Govt. for its heavy sales tax and even called for direct import of fuels so that he don’t pay sales tax.
Once the market price of Kingfisher was 40 rupees per share, but they kept as 65 rupees. Now it has come down to 17 rupees triggering another share market collapse.

MY VIEWS
According to me it was a bad ploy to purchase plenty of aircraft during 2008 by taking huge loans from banks.  The competition with Jet airways to acquire Air Sahara and Air Deccan was needless that time. The ambitious vision had triggered the downfall of kingfisher.  Kingfisher could not handle the competitive pricing from other airways. It was foreseen by many financial analysts that recession going to strike the Indian economy. But during the recession time, kingfisher borrowed a lot of loan from banks for meeting the working capital requirements.
Now all the past borrowing formed a mountain. They went for a financial restructuring last time by reducing the debt. But now they have to restructure it again.

WHAT IS NEXT?
It’s time for Govt. to say yes for the Foreign Direct Investment. They have to review the taxation policy. Otherwise airlines have to import fuels.
FDI is the long term solution for this crisis. Decrease in fuel price and reducing the tax may give a sigh of relief but it’s not going to last long. It’s good for the development of the aviation industry. It’s very much clear that standard of living will be increased with the steady growth in the economy and also in the long run, inflation rate will come down.
The current booing not going to demolish the goodwill of the kingfisher as the rest cannot compete with the flamboyance of the most cunning person in India. Kingfisher will be back with fully reconfigured aircrafts to give sleepless nights for the research and development department of other carriers.
